FLUID PRESSURE DYNAMICS

In the field of Manual Therapy, practitioners seek techniques which provide consistent, measurable results for a wide spectrum of patients.  With demands made upon practitioners by managed care, employers, a competitive market, or just their own busy schedules, it also becomes important to be able to perform techniques quickly and achieve immediate results.  For all involved, there should be a low risk factor for an approach to be readily accepted.

All of the techniques presented within LOWEN SYSTEMS meet and exceed these criteria.  They are gentle, fast, efficient, and produce outstanding, reproducible results.  They utilize the body’s own corrective mechanisms and are therefore completely safe.  Since they do not activate protective responses, post treatment rebound is not a factor, and the techniques are easily applicable to all patient populations including infants, neurological and frail patients.

FASCIAL AND CONNECTIVE TISSUE REGULATORS

There are many current and popular approaches to the stretching and releasing of fascia throughout the body.  These approaches utilize direct stretch, pressure on tender points or triggers, direct or indirect loading or multi-planar loading (stacking).  Most involve a significant time element to perform.  Some involve considerable pressure and can be quite painful to the patient.  These techniques rely on the basic rules of mechanics and thermodynamics without regard to the rapidly expanding sciences of the human body, which has an incredible ability to stabilize and correct itself.  While “unwinding” techniques do utilize some of this wisdom and innate capacity, those techniques do not seem to be able to release specific restrictions, but rather decrease tensions around a restricted area, while maintaining the original restriction.

The FASCIAL REGULATORS approach is unique and revolutionary.  It utilizes the body’s own mechanisms to achieve practically instantaneous, painless, and often large changes in connective tissue, including multiple layers and tissue systems simultaneously.

BIOMECHANICAL REGULATORS

These techniques address very specific and detailed components of spine, sacral, pelvic and extremity biomechanics.  Certain points (regulators) are engaged in relationship to positions specific to the desired movement of the joint or interface.  Immediate changes in range of motion, movement patterns and gait can be readily observed and experienced.  Space and balance within a joint can be re-established, ameliorating or preventing conditions which commonly arise from chronic joint compression.  Advanced classes learn to work with subtle movements and impulses that effect patterns of movement in a profound way when corrected.  Even complex issues involving biomechanics are easily assessed and treated with these original techniques.

MANUAL PERCEPTION

MANUAL PERCEPTION is an entirely new and original field of diagnostics and related treatment.  The hand is used as a fine instrument to seek and interpret information from the body and to assist in engaging optimal corrective activity.  With training, tension is perceived to collect in the hand at different areas that correspond to tissues or systems in the body separately and in relationship to each other.  These tensions can also be specifically engaged to explore the influence of other systems and to treat the tissue or system.  With training and practice, the possibilities are staggering.  These tools can be utilized alone or as an adjunct to any other therapy system.

PHYSICAL/ENERGETIC INTERFACE

The PHYSICAL/ENERGETIC INTERFACE series contain more advanced courses for the practitioner who has developed proficiency and understanding of the basic skills and concepts.  A good working knowledge of anatomy is paramount.  Within these seminars, the student is introduced to the location and interaction with very specific anatomical structures and learns to find, distinguish and engage their rhythm patterns to enhance function.  This series includes courses for the neurological and circulatory systems starting at the more physical interfaces and progressing to that which falls more in the energetic realm.

FLUID PRESSURE DYNAMICS

This is the newest addition to the DYNAMIC MANUAL INTERFACE curriculum but perhaps the foundation for much of the other class material.  FLUID PRESSURES are the impetus for change throughout the body.  In these classes students learn how to use the main circulatory rhythm to effect changes to all tissues.  We explore the relationship between the viscera and biomechanics and the cranial mechanism as well.  There is a Foundation level class as well as two advanced classes to date in this series.  This is truly state of the art therapy.  Full body changes can be achieved simply and quickly.

All of the techniques within the approach of LOWEN SYSTEMS have the following points in common:

  •   They rely purely on manual skills, using no other modality or agent.
  •    They utilize the body’s own mechanisms to effect changes in the tissues.
  •   They are intended to give the patient more potential and greater possibilities for health and recovery, but are not designed to “heal” an individual.  We strive to enhance the individual’s capacity for correction by assisting those processes which are trying to work towards balance.
